Meditation has become more popular these days. With so many disruptive changes in the world in the past few years, people feel more overwhelmed and stressed out. I first started meditating in 2018 also to relieve stress. It started a journey that I am grateful for.

Definition

From my simple understanding, meditation can be defined as a practice that helps you pay attention to the presence instead of the past or the future.

How can I start?

There are many ways to start meditating. My recommendation is to use a free app called Insight Timer (https://insighttimer.com/). This app has thousands of free meditations from great teachers like Jack Kornfield, Sharon Salzberg, and Sarah Blondin.

Once you download from App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android), you can start with a free course called ‘Learn How to Meditate in Seven Days‘ by Sarah Blondin.

Once you finish that, you can use the app to explore other free guided meditations or challenges. Some guided meditations that I have tried include:

  • Balance and Beginning Again by Sharon Salzberg
  • Breath Meditation by Sharon Salzberg
  • Breathing Meditation by Jack Kornfield
  • Learning to Surrender by Sarah Blondin
